"Sophie Hatier photographie des crêtes de montagnes avec des angles
extrêmes et beaucoup de ciel, si bien que le spectateur a l’impression que
le territoire arrive à sa fin et que la terre est tombée pour laisser place à
une arête déchiquetée faisant saillie. Ces photographies soulèvent la question
de savoir ce qui peut exister au-delà de ces crêtes, au-delà du champ de
vision humain. Pourrait-il y avoir une autre forme d’espace ? Peut-être un
abysse qui nous plongerait dans l’espace lointain ? Ou peut-être même la fin
du monde connu ? Ces photographies dégagent également une certaine
impression d’irréalité, comme si elles étaient directement extraites d’un
jeu vidéo, ou qu’elles parvenaient à représenter des lieux qui échappent
à Google Street. Une sorte d’espace inconnaissable, au-delà de toute
imagination humaine."
"Sophie Hatier’s photographs of mountain ridges at extreme angles with big skies
give the impression that the terrain has come to an end, or that the land as fallen away
leaving a jagged edge jutting into space. This raises the question of what might be beyond
the ridges and out reach of human sight. Could it be another form of space; may be an
abyss from which to fall into deep space or even the end of the known world? There is also
a sense of unreality about these photographs, which suggest they might have come from
a computer game or they picture the point where Google Street comes to an end. A kind of
space that is unknowable and that is beyond human imagination."
